Maintaining Integrity in Testing: How CMC Is Confirming That Testing Isn't Taken Over By AI

Wednesday, June 10, 2026 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM CMC · RDSC 131

About This Session

When AI began encroaching on the student experience, CMC didn't just react — we strategized. With the prevalence of AI tools available to students, faculty have been searching for testing solutions that keep students present in the class, in the exam, and in the moment.

Claremont McKenna College has spent four years refining a dual-pronged approach: Electronic BlueBook as a long-standing solution and the newly introduced Respondus LockDown Browser. This presentation tells the honest story — the war stories of implementation, the victories and the mistakes, and the hard-won lessons from bridging IT infrastructure with the LMS and building a genuine faculty-IT partnership.

Whether your campus is facing similar AI integrity concerns or looking for practical integration guidance, you'll leave with a clear view of CMC's past challenges and next steps.

The Two-Tool Approach

4 Years Running

Electronic BlueBook

CMC's established solution for secure, AI-free testing. Four years of real-world deployment has produced a clear picture of where it excels and where it reaches its limits.

Early Implementation

Respondus LockDown Browser

The second prong in CMC's evolving strategy — currently in early rollout. Attendees will hear the unfiltered story of what's working and what still needs refinement.

What You'll Take Away

  • Practical insight into keeping student interactions authentic and AI-free during assessments
  • A candid comparison of Electronic BlueBook and Respondus LockDown Browser from four years of lived experience
  • Lessons from bridging the gap between IT infrastructure and the Learning Management System
  • Strategies for building the faculty-IT partnership needed to make testing tools stick
  • Implementation "war stories" — specific victories and mistakes you can learn from before you encounter them yourself

Learning Outcomes

  • Gain practical insight into how to support AI-free student interactions during testing, with approaches applicable regardless of institution size.
  • Use CMC's four-year experience with Electronic BlueBook and Respondus LockDown Browser to inform your own campus's product evaluation and decision-making.

Session Description

This presentation tells the story of how CMC identified the threat to testing validity and engineered a response. Over four years, the team has detailed the specific victories and mistakes encountered — from the initial integration challenges with the LMS to the evolving faculty relationship required to keep solutions adopted and effective.

The session covers what it takes to bridge IT infrastructure with academic tools in an environment where AI is constantly advancing. Attendees will come away with a grounded, real-world understanding of two leading testing integrity platforms and the institutional factors that determine their success.
